Directly from New York city, Morgan Pappas is a versatile flutist, chamber musician, and music educator. 
Morgan has performed with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles at venues such as Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Symphony Space. In 2013 Morgan participated in the Volterra Project in Tuscany, Italy where she performed with internationally acclaimed guitarists. Morgan graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Music from New York University. At NYU, Morgan studied with Artist Faculty member Kathleen Nester and studied flute repertoire with Artist Faculty member Keith Underwood. Morgan enjoys performing chamber music throughout the NY Metropolitan area, and freelancing with local orchestras and wind ensembles. She is currently a graduate student at Aaron Copland School of Music .
She tells us:
“Being a freelance musician in NYC is exciting- there are so many opportunities for young professional musicians to discover their musical niche through diverse concerts. I’ve been hired for all sorts of concerts ranging from a premier at Carnegie Hall to a wedding gig with a Persian Pop Star. Ultimately, I try to accept every gig as a learning opportunity to meet new musicians, make contacts, and play new music.”

ADVICE
DOUBLE-TONGUING advice for flutists: The best way to work up double-tongue speed is to practice a little bit everyday with scales or études without rushing the process. For example, Taffanel and Gaubert’s “17 Daily Exercises” has great scale work that is perfect for double tonguing. I like to switch up the tonguing syllables when I warm up with double-tonguing exercises: instead of “ta-ka, ta-ka” I often choose to think closer to “doo-goo, doo-goo,” or “duh-guh, duh-guh,” as demonstrated with this excerpt from Paganini’s Violin Caprice No.5.

CONSIGLIO
consiglio per il DOPPIO STACCATO: Il modo migliore per lavorare sulla velocità della lingua nel “doppio” è quello di praticare un po’ tutti i giorni con le scale o études senza aver fretta. Ad esempio, nel Taffanel e “17 esercizi quotidiani” di Gaubert, si può trovare un grande lavoro sulle scale, proprio per questo sono perfetti per lo studio del doppio staccato. Mi piace cambiare le sillabe dello staccato quando mi scaldo con esercizi del doppio: invece di “ta-ka, ta-ka” mi capita spesso di scegliere di pensare più vicino a “doo-goo, doo-goo”, o “duh- guh, duh-guh “, come dimostrato con questo mio estratto dal Caprice No.5 di Paganini.
